Systems Engineering students innovating with Dynapac

On May 22nd the final presentation of the MT2563 Systems Engineering course took place at Dynapac (Fayat Group) headquarters in Karlskrona. 21 students from the mechanical engineering program presented the results of six systems engineering projects, focusing on the redesign of different sub-systems of Dynapac machines. This year topics focused on the re-engineering of the seat rotation system of a machine and on proposing a solution for carrying a vibration plate on a compaction machine. The students worked for two months on the selected project, including a company visit in which they could see and test the current machines.  The presentation consisted in the detailed description of the proposed engineering solution, supported by the use of systems engineering methods, and visualized by means of CAD models and physical prototypes (3D printed models, Lego models, and wooden prototypes).

“It is the first time that we organize the final presentation of the course at a company partner facility”, says Alessandro Bertoni, course responsible and examiner,  “It enhances collaboration and gives the opportunity for many industrial practitioners to attend to such events. I am really satisfied with the quality results and we received very good feedback from the company”.

The Systems Engineering course is run every year for 4th years students in Mechanical Engineering and in the latest years has featured a collaboration with Dynapac, Volvo Construction Equipment, ABB and GKN Aerospace Systems Sweden.
