Sound-proofing Drilling Module

Sound-proofing Drilling Module

Technological innovation for the reduction of construction noise

Programme: Industrial Economy and Mechanical engineering

Course: MT2569

Corporate partner: Volvo Construction Equipment

Challenge: Identify a problem regarding the safety of a construction sight, in regards to bypassers.

Solution: The group created a prototype of a module with the purpose of isolating noise from a particular activity at a construction site.

Impact: The reduction in noise creates a overall lower volume in construction sites. It eases the communication on site as well as the general health of the public.

Prototypes: The prototype is a module built from 320x200x12mm plywood walls with added sound-isolating foam. The purpose is to build the required geometry required for a specific operation. The product was tested in sound-proofing and shows potential to provide reduction in construction noise.

Quotes from sponsor/partner: -“What is the next step for the project?" The team is planning the implementation of the product. In order to do so, the team have to create additional iterations of prototypes to continue testing on a more advanced level. The solution is anticipated to be improved with the help of more customer input.
