The department is active in research, education and collaboration, and is a specialized unit with in-depth knowledge.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont,;\">We work in high degree accordingly to Blekinge Institute of Technology&#039;s profile &#8220;applied IT and innovation for sustainable growth\" and in our student and research labs we have modern equipment and systems to support product development, prototyping and visualization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">We gather our research efforts under the flag of two research labs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Product Development Research Laboratory\n<ul>\n<li>Research Director: Prof Tobias Larsson<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Structural Mechanics Research Laboratory\n<ul>\n<li>Research Director: Prof Sharon Kao-Walter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All labs are within the research subject of Mechanical Engineering. Development<\/a>\u00a0(MD3S+) to further profile the strong research environment at BTH<\/li>\n<li>2012: Receives <a href=\"http:\/\/www.productdevelopment.se\/?p=68\">Knowledge Foundation Profile grant in Model Driven Development<\/a>\u00a0to build strong research environment at BTH<\/li>\n<li>2012: The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bth.se\/tisu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Strategic Sustainable Development<\/a> is successfully created as a spin-off from the department.<\/li>\n<li>2010: The new master&#039;s Programme in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mspi.se\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustainable Product-Service Systems Innovation<\/a> begins successfully.<\/li>\n<li>2005: Mechanical Engineerings two first Ph.D exams<\/li>\n<li>2004: The new master&#039;s Programme in Strategic Leadership Towards Sustainability begins successfully.<\/li>\n<li>2003: A new master\u00b4s programme in Strategic Leadership Towards Sustainability was approved.<\/li>\n<li>2003: The two first licentiate of technology where examined at the Department of Mechanical Engineering.<\/li>\n<li>2002: &#8220;Civilingenj\u00f6rsutbildning\" (a master programme) in Mechanical Engineering was approved<\/li>\n<li>2001: The department got its own research area in Mechanical Engineering.<\/li>\n<li>2001: Our first fulltime professor was appointed.<\/li>\n<li>2001: Two licentiate of technology, supervised at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, where examined.<\/li>\n<li>2000: The three year education programme in Virtual product development and design started<\/li>\n<li>2000: Our first associate professor (docent) was appointed.<\/li>\n<li>1997: The first PhD student began working at the department.<\/li>\n<li>1996: Our master programme in collaboration in Sweden<\/li>\n<li>A reference source for industrial companies striving for innovation.<\/li>\n<li>A research team that think outside the box.<\/li>\n<li>Not the biggest but smartest through focus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our vision for the upcoming five-year period (2019-2024) embraces the perspective of PD with cornerstones in value models, innovation, creativity and sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Some KPI areas we pay attention to are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Competent co-workers.<\/li>\n<li>Increased collaboration with industry.<\/li>\n<li>Increased presence\u00a0on the
