Knowledge Enabled Engineering is an umbrella term collecting and discussing practices, methods and tools to support – or 'enable' – engineering work through knowledge. Engineering design is a very decision-intensive process. Correct and timely decisions requires a great deal of knowledge about products, processes and more. In this course we are looking at how to collect, store and use such knowledge to support engineering work in complex and less complex projects.<\/p>\n

About Knowledge Enabled Engineering<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
<\/p>\n

The course features 4 modules, dedicated to 4 different 'enablers' for knowledge management in the domain of engineering design:<\/p>\n

–\u00a0Design automation<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>which\u00a0is the act of codifying the knowledge about a product to automate the generation of new solution alternatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

–\u00a0Lightweight knowledge sharing<\/strong>, which is the act of distilling and formalising knowledge from the unstructured engineering 'conversations' going on in the organisation.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0Process modelling<\/strong>, which is the act of representing the sequence of activities, inputs, outputs and more that characterise engineering processes.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0Process simulation<\/strong>, which is the act of turning this static knowledge into a dynamic model to predict the outcome of future scenarios (i.e., how different engineering solutions will behave in their operational environment).<\/p>\n
