BTH is taking the next step in its Virtual Production Studio Lab (vpsl.se) journey of experiments with advanced simulation based decision making with models and simulation by transitioning Virtual Production Studio Lab out of Blå Hallen at Karlskrona Blue Port Studios as the facility lease have come to and end. The capabilities of VPSL is now being brought back into the campus environment for the 5th iteration of this “Model Driven Decision Arena – MDDA” journey to support engineering decision making and creative industries.
The campus-based environment for research and education vill now be known as VPSLx where the added x stands for exploration signalling the usage of the tech for advanced exploration journeys. Mid december moveout from Blå Hallen and then the new setup will be operational end January 2026 and is being prepared together with Kruthusen in BTH facilities as we speak.

VPSLx builds on the foundation established in Blå Hallen, where virtual production and XR (extended reality) technology has been explored in real-world settings. The move back to BTH is designed to accelerate hands-on use across courses, student projects, and research activities by placing the technology closer to daily academic workflows and collaboration spaces.
“VPSLx is about making virtual production, generative AI, XR and simulation based decision making more accessible for experimentation, learning, and rapid iteration,” says Ryan Ruvald, Researcher at BTH and lab responsible for VPSLx. “By bringing it onto campus, we can strengthen integration with research, education, and cross-disciplinary collaboration — while continuing to develop new methods, tools, and demonstrators.”
PDRL emphasizes that the transition does not mean stepping away from the local ecosystem built around the studio. Collaboration will continue with Karlskrona Kommun, Region Blekinge and partners in the creative industries, connecting technology development with regional innovation, production, and new forms of storytelling and visualization as BTH together with partners establish BTH campus as a new pivotal place in Karlskrona. VPSLx will also be tied closely to the ongoing dual use efforts in Marine Technology Center of Sweden with marine, defense and energy projects where VPSLx will be the main digitalisation lab support.
“We’ve had an amazing year with VPSL in Blå Hallen and humbly want to thank collaborators and partners for the great time together! Some 3000 people have been given demos and showcases and by BTH and partners, and several new projects have been started.” Ryan continues.

More information on upcoming activities, demonstrations, and partnership opportunities will be shared as VPSLx ramps up at BTH early 2026.
