November news: Awards and collaborations...

During the month of November, staff from mechanical engineering and the Product Development Research Lab been engaged in several outreach activities. See the full PDRL web for all the activities, below you find three items with direct links.

Research: As an activity of collaboration, the board and researchers in the research profile Model Driven Development and Decision Support went to DTU to listen in to the experiences on running a research center full cycle. Professor Tim McAloone was our host and the trip also included a visit to the innovation lab Skylab. Find the report on it here.

Education: Working with live projects is always a goal in our education. In November the MT2536 Value Innovation course had its final presentations. All projects have the objective to develop innovative products/services able to create value for their customers and users, while at the same time reducing costs and the need for resources. Partners this year was GKN Aerospace Engine Systems, Avalon Innovation, Sanda Kapell, AllHall Holmsjö and Atlas Copco Road Paving Equipment. Have a look at the projects here.

The time is getting closer to form thesis topics for this years master theses. We have engineers with focus on Engineering Analysis (lena.prinselaar@bth.se), Mechanical Engineering (lena.prinselaar@bth.se), Industrial Economy (gunilla.akesson.nilsson@bth.se), Innovative Product Development (christian.m.johansson@bth.se), Design Thinking (christian.m.johansson@bth.se), Product-Service Systems (tobias.larsson@bth.se). Look at our programme and thesis page, and contact us with ideas for projects, as we aim to close this late november, early december, and start in January.

Collaboration: We're building an innovation arena at BTH with our research/education strategy at the core. We want students, researchers, and corporate partners to jointly have areas for project work, and possible innovation startups. Contact person here is Associate Professor Andreas Larsson. One of the activities in creating an innovation arena is to be more including in letting our partners be close to us and our activities, taking the makerspace thinking on the road is one such initiative (visit to Caliterra below), read about it here.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you have anything on your mind!

All the best, Tobias (tlr@bth.se), +4670-5119416

Human-machine interaction in autonomous mode
How can automated machines and humans work efficiently in the same area – at same time building trust between each other – without any risk for the humans and without any unplanned downtime for the machines? That is the challenge for this year’s Volvo CE ME310 project with BTH and Stanford University.
