Congrats Andreas Larsson, certified Innovation Leader!

Andreas Larsson has recently been certified as Innovation Leader within RISE. Here follows some words from him on the topic.

You are now certified (ISO) Innovation Leader. Congratulations! What is it?

Thank you! It is a certificate approved by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, following ISO/IEC 17024, a standard for personnel certification. I was in the first batch of a pilot programme initiated by the non-profit organization Innovationsledarna, which is working to professionalize the role of innovation leaders.

Andreas with Innovation Leader certificate.

What does this certification mean?

It means that I have formally passed all steps in the certification process: a three-day course in innovation leadership, a four-hour written exam, a one-hour verbal exam, and also the hand-in of a written case study that describes my own experiences of leading innovation projects. More than anything, I think it is a stamp of approval that the work I’m doing is based on a well-grounded systematic approach that effectively combines the academic state-of-the-art with the industrial state-of-practice.

How can we at BTH benefit from this?

It’s obviously just a piece of paper, but in a way we already are benefiting. Yes, the certificate is new, but the knowledge and expertise behind it is already a natural part of many of our activities that have taken years to design and continuously re-design. For example, the MSPI innovation process, the PSS Extreme Innovation course, the global projects with Stanford University and Volvo Construction Equipment, the Makerspace, the Innovation Labs, Innovationskontor Syd, and the ways in which we are setting up strategic partnerships between BTH and companies…these things we do are all infused with the processes, practices and behaviors that underpin successful innovation leadership.

I am the first to get the certificate, but I’m certainly not the only one at BTH who lives up to the criteria. Innovation is teamwork, and I think this is just a small receipt that shows that our team is both doing the right things and doing the things right.
