Frugal Innovation for global sustainable development

Frugal Innovation for global sustainable development

‘Frugal’ means making things simpler, in such a way that they are adapted to the local circumstances, or adapted to a resource constrained environment. Frugal innovations can be placed on the junction of affordability and good enough quality, while still having basic functionality.

These are some of the perspectives on the concept of frugal innovations shared at the International Conference – Frugal Innovation for Sustainable Global Development, which was at Leiden, Netherlands in November 2017.

Santosh Jagtap from PDRL participated in this highly multidisciplinary conference, attended by the researchers and practitioners from, for example, Europe, Africa and Asia. A number of presentations, together with debates and discussions, allowed sharing knowledge on the emerging areas of research and practice in the field of frugal innovations.
