Starting out the day, Stefan Rosell, Team Leader Software Engineering, and Johan Ahlström, Systems Engineering Manager met with about 25 students from different programmes to give an overview of Kongsberg Automotive, its business areas and products.

For example, the company works in areas like seat comfort (incl. seat climate systems), efficient powertrains (incl. shift-by-wire and automated manual transmission), and advanced fluid handling (incl. pipe/hose assemblies for powertrains).

Today, their business is 80% electronics, 20% mechanics. It used to be the other way around.

About 500 of them are working within R&D, and 200 in Mullsjö, outside of Jönköping, where Kongsberg Automotive also has a Center of Excellence for electronics. In Mullsjö, they have R&D capability from concept to production ready. This includes full in-house prototype, test and validation capability. The company is growing rapidly and are in great demand of Electronics HW Engineers, Software Engineers, HW Test Engineers, HW/SW Test Leaders, and other roles. They also offer internships and final thesis projects (BSc, MSc, Master).

Over lunch, Pro-vice-chancellor Henric Johnson joined to present BTH’s strategic work with collaboration and innovation.

Claes described the Faculty of Computing and also the research areas within the Software Engineering Research Laboratory (SERL) at BTH, including agile/lean development processes, global software engineering, requirements engineering, and software quality. Marco represented the Faculty of Engineering and focused specifically on the research activities within the Product Development Research Laboratory (PDRL), including design automation, model based engineering and value driven design.

To round off the day, Stefan and Johan met with Chinese students to discuss job opportunities in Shanghai and Wuxi, China.
